Wilson County Amateur Radio
Emergency Service
Serving the Citizens of Wilson County and Middle Tennessee

Teams

Wilson County Amateur Radio Service is made up of four basic teams.  These teams are National Weather Service Response Team, Wilson Emergency Management Agency Response Team, University Medical Center Response Team, and the SkyWarn Team.  For information on joining any of these teams, please contact Michael Wright, N4MAW.

Team Descriptions

  • Team SkyWarn - This team is made up of anyone who has had the National Weather Service's SkyWarn program training (see training page for links to the SkyWarn Training page for Middle Tennessee.)  This team is made up of all of our members because these are the frontline guys when there is a widespread outbreak of sever weather in our area.  Because of our geographic location, severe weather is the primary cause for ARES activation in Wilson County.
  • Team NWS - This is our group of operators whose primary served agency is the National Weather Service.  They are the ones who work alongside the Forecasters during widespread sever weather outbreaks throughout Middle Tennessee taking reports from the local ARES/SkyWarn nets throughout the mid-state area.  These team members are trained SkyWarn Spotters and are knowledgeable about the types of reports the NWS Forcasters need during widespread severe weather.  Team members are:
    • Ray DeTaeye, KI4VNX
    • Tom Parker, KB4SFN
    • Jeff Seligman, WD4BWC
  • Team WEMA- This team of operators support the Wilson Emergency Management Agency.  They report to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and provide Amateur Radio Communications to the agency.  Although a number of WEMA employees are licensed amateur radio operators, they typically have higher priorities than operating the amateur radios located in the EOC and on the Mobile Command Post.  Team members are:
    • Dave Bonner, KJ4BLG
    • Joe Crutchfield, K4AAW
    • Michael Wright, N4MAW
  • Team UMC - This team operates the amateur radios located at University Medical Center in Lebanon.  This includes participating in the monthly Middle Tennessee Hospital net with many other hospitals in the mid-state area.  It is recommended that anyone wishing to volunteer for this team be at least a General Class or higher Licensee because they may be required to operate on the HF bands from the hospital.  Team members are:
    • Charles Cothern, KC4GJU
    • Brian Farrell, KJ4GMY
    • Tom Parker, KB4SFN (backup)
