April
Starts With Active Weather UPDATED

April 2, 2009
Brings Another Activation
Just one day before the 35th anniversary of what became
known as "Black Wednesday" we were once again activating the
EOC and NWS stations. April 3, 1973 proved to be one of the
nation's worst and most deadly outbreaks of tornados in
history but thankfully April 2, 2009 did not bring a
repeat. While there are no NWS confirmed tornados at this
time, it is believed that one may have touched down in the
Donelson area of Davidson County leaving two semis
overturned on I-40 shutting down both the East and West
bound lanes for a period of time. These storms also
resulted in a suspension of arrivals and departures at
Nashville International Airport and the evacuation of the
control tower due to the weather. Thanks to those who
responded to the call from WEMA and the NWS. Update -
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF1 tornado
touched down in the Murfreesboro Rd. area near NAshville
International Airport/Briley Parkway & I-40 area.
