Wilson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service is always looking for new members. Wilson County ARES is open to all FCC Licensed Amateur Radio Operators. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE WILSON COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB NOR ANY OTHER AMATEUR RADIO CLUB OR ORGANIZATION TO BE A PART OF THE WILSON COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICE! We are made up of four basic teams - Storm Spotters (SkyWarn), National Weather Service Team, University Medical Center Team, and Wilson Emergency Management Agency team. Please contact the ARES Emergency Coordinator for more information on volunteering for any of these teams or positions..
Description: Provides eyes-on-the-ground information about weather events as they happen.
Requirements: Amateur radio license (any class), NWS SkyWarn training, and a desire to help during severe weather.
Description: Provides Amateur Radio communications at the Nashville office of the National Weather Service.
Requirements: Amateur radio license (any class), NWS SkyWarn training, and a desire to help during severe weather. Prefer experience as Net Control Operator but this is not a requirement.
Description: Provides Amateur Radio Communications to University Medical Center during time of disaster or loss of traditional communications systems. This includes the use of HF/VHF/UHF Amateur Radio frequencies.
Requirements: Amateur radio license (prefer General or Extra due to possible use of HF Bands. Additional requirements to be posted soon.

Requirements: Amateur radio license (prefer General or Extra due to possible use of HF Bands.) FEMA IS-100.a Introduction to Incident Command System and IS-700.a NIMS An Introduction are required training courses for anyone wishing to be assigned to the EOC or Mobile Command Post positions. ARRL EC-001 – Basic EmComm/Level 1 is strongly recommended as well.
Description: Responsible for running the ARES Net when activated as well as the weekly information and training net. Files net report with the Net Manager & Emergency Coordinator.
Requirements: Amateur radio license (any class). No net control experience is needed as you will receive training and experience by being one of our Net Control Operators for our weekly information and training nets.
Description: This position is responsible for monitoring the Wilson County ARES and the MTEARS nets when both are active. This person will receive and filter storm reports from the Wilson County Net and forward those meeting NWS SkyWarn reporting criteria to the MTEARS Net via UHF Amateur Radio and/or other available methods.
Requirements: Amateur radio license (any class) and NWS SkyWarn training. Should be familiar with net protocols on both nets and be able to monitor and operate on two nets simultaneously.
Description: This position is responsible for interfacing with the National Traffic System (NTS) to handle NTS traffic to and from the Wilson ARC and/or ARES nets as needed.
Requirements: General or Extra Class Amateur Radio License, knowledge of formal NTS traffic handling procedures.
