NEW!!Online Interest, Capabilities, and Training Survey Available!

  • An online version of the "Wilson County ARES Interest, Capabilities, & Training Online Survey" is now available.  If you did not receive one by e-mail and would like to be a part of the Wilson County ARES group, take 2-3 minutes to complete the survey letting us know your interests and what information you would like us to contact you with.  The survey will open in a new window.  The survey will remain open until midnight, Saturday October 3, 2009.  As always, you do not have to be a member of the Wilson County Amateur Radio Club or any other Amateur Radio organization to be a part of the Wilson County ARES group - it is open to all FCC Licensed Amateur Radio Operators who wish to provide a very valuable service to the citizens of Wilson County!

NEW!!Outdoor Warning Siren Test Net Activation Successful

  • We had 7 stations, including Net Control, participate in the WEMA Outdoor Warning Siren test today.  WEMA was pleased with the number of stations who checked in to the net and provided feedback.  We plan on continuing this in the future and learned a few improvements we can make for the next test.  The main changes we will be making are:
    1. We will request stations to sign up in advance for a particular siren location.  This will enable us to provide a list of participants and the siren they will monitor to WEMA before the test begins as well as allow for a faster net check-in process.
    2. Certain sirens (Lebanon Airport, WEMA EOC, and Downtown Lebanon) will require the monitoring station to be present at the siren site.  This is due to the fact that when near any of those sirens, the monitoring station may also hear one of the other nearby sirens resulting in an incorrect report.
    3. The net will need to be activated sooner.  We will plan on activating the net next month no later than 11:45am.
  • Thank you to all stations who checked in and provided reports on the siren in their area.  Additional updates and changes to this new service we can perform for WEMA and the citizens of Wilson County will be posted here as well as sent out through the e-mail subscription list.

Interest, Capabilities, and Training Survey Sent!

  • All subscribers to the Wilson County ARES "Info" e-mail reflector should have received the survey this morning.  Please take time (2-3 minutes) to complete the survey so that we can determine our capabilities and areas of interest for each member.  If you did not see the survey in your inbox, please check your spam folder or spam filtering software.  The e-mail will be from ec@wilson-co-ares.org and have "Wilson County ARES Interest, Capabilities, & Training Survey" as the subject.  For those who would like to participate in ARES and are do not subscribe to our info e-mail distribution, an online version of the survey will be available soon - Please check this web site regularly for the online version.

Mailing List Subscription Pages Now Available

Interest, Capabilities, and Training Survey Coming Soon!

  • In the next few days, we will be sending out a link to a survey to identify members and potential members interests, capabilities, and training courses completed.  This will allow us to place everyone interested in being a part of ARES in a role that will fit them best and allow them to participate at the level and on the team they can commit to.  This will also allow us to identify the areas where we need to focus on in order to build our ARES group with respect to both the number of members as well as our capabilities.  Please be watching for an e-mail with a link to a survey from SurveyMonkey.com and take the time to complete it as soon as possible so that we can begin making the Wilson County ARES the best it can be!

WEMA Weather Ops Weather Radio Promotion a Success

  • The Wilson County EMA Weather Operations Team's weather radio promotion at the 2009 Wilson County Fair in conjunction with NewsChannel 5, Midland, and Kroger was a success.  Over 200 houses that previously did not have a NOAA Weather Radio now do.  Thank you to all the Wilson County ARES and Wilson Amateur Radio Club members who volunteered some time to assist by programming the radios and demonstrating how to operate them!
